Mia Krueger

Clinical Social Work Intern

I’m currently open to new clients!

Mia Krueger is a current full-time AM MSW candidate at the University of Chicago’s Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice. Mia grew up in California’s Bay Area and found her passion for arts-based therapy while teaching sewing and beading to children in an afterschool and summer program. Through creating a safe and creative space for children to express themselves, Mia discovered her passion for using art as a tool for connection, healing, and growth.

Mia believes that no matter the creative outlet, activity, or artistic medium, the act of engaging the creative brain is a powerful tool for both physical and emotional expression. Mia operates her therapeutic practice on a client-led philosophy, always meeting people where they are and with the belief and understanding that the client is the expert on their experience. Mia strives to create a space in which people feel uplifted, genuine support, safety, and calm.

Mia has experience working with all age groups, with a specific emphasis on those who have experienced trauma. Mia has both professional and personal experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, children on the autism spectrum, and individuals with complex mental health conditions. As an MSW student, Mia provides client-centered support in a supervised clinical setting, drawing on her developing clinical knowledge and skills to offer compassionate, thoughtful, and meaningful care.

Mia earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in studio art and sustainability from the University of Denver. She supported individuals and families facing domestic violence, homelessness, and income insecurity, helping connect them with housing, resources, and benefits. As an MSW student at the University of Chicago, Mia has contributed to several community-building projects and serves on the committee board of the University of Chicago’s Social Work team with Chicago Street Medicine. Her work is driven by a commitment to support, uplift, and equip vulnerable populations with the tools and skills to build more meaningful, independent, and fulfilling lives.

“Meeting everyone where they are, no matter the circumstances.”
